Any reason to wear a pink wig and a tutu is a good one and THIS is a great one! The Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure was held in downtown Birmingham at Linn Park. Thousands and thousands of people of all ages, families, mom’s, dad’s, children, grandparents, and teens came to raise money and show their support of loved ones and women world wide!
The outlandish fashions is simply a reflection of each individual’s and group’s passion for the cause and their determination for finding a cure. Little dogs with pink toenails to big men with pink tutus… there were no limits and everybody was having the time of their lives. You could just feel the current running through the crowd that everyone, stranger or friend, shared a common bond that joined them together in a way where words were not required. Hugs, smiles and tears let everyone know that we are all in this together and we will WIN!
The parade of survivors was exhilerating and tear jerking as women carried their signs showing that they have been cancer free for anywhere from 1 year to 36 years! 24 white doves were released and as they fluttered and flew off into the bright blue sky… so did the spirits of the crowd.
103.7 The Q, Magic 96.5, and Fox News were present and broadcasting on location. 103.7 The Q’s Dino was interviewing the contestants as they crossed the finish line, asking who inspired them and who they are running for. Rob & Dana with Magic 96.5 were announcing the events of the day and making sure that everyone had the opportunity to “get pinked”, which means being doused with pink baby powder! Fox news hosted the stage in front of the courthouse where they presented major contributors like the doctors and sponsors who are making a difference. Mayor Bell’s wife, Sharon, took the stage with a motivational speech during which she stated that “breast cancer knows no age, race, gender or creed” and together we can overcome.
